July 17th, 2006 - Imst, Austria to Feldkirch, Austria

One of the more dramatic sounding passes in the guidebook was the Khutai pass. While it was a slight detour in the wrong direction, I decided I couldn’t miss it being as close as I was. Following the small roads beside the east-west autobahn and being sure to ride the short but beautiful one lane Haiming Joch, I found the turn off for the pass and before long was twisting up a single lane paved road. At the top of the climb, things opened up on a ski town centering around a lift rising from right beside the main road. I continued through the town and pulled off the road at what seemed like the high point. I turned 360 degrees looking for my big dramatic two star pay off, but it never really came. It was just kind of open with the rolling hills of the bare ski slopes. I decided to settle for taking some pictures of two cows grazing at the summit and was surprised when one female mounted the other. Hot lesbian cow on cow action. No bull! (sorry, couldn’t resist but I hope you’ll indulge me after my disappointment at the summit scenery).

From Khutai, I backtracked past Imst and made my way towards the turn-off for the Silveretta Strasse. From the signs warning of seasonal snow closures, I was getting excited about the possibilities of some high alpine views. The road up was in great condition and ultimately topped out at a dramatic white-blue lake with a beautiful deck for enjoying a cappuccino and a sausage-based lunch.

Note to Self: When going for the bad ass self portait to document your motorcycle adventure, tuck in your shirt.

Winding back down towards the autobahn was equally enjoyable and with 210 km for the day, I reached Feldkirch, Austria and found a place to stay.
